All cuts are performed on dry hair, utilizing techniques I've learned from Head Shape Matters, The Deva Curl Academy, Curly Hair Artistry, The Raw Curls Academy, Rezo Cut Academy and Cut it Kinky. Each curl is cut to optimize its unique pattern in relation to the curls around it. My aim is not to "tame" your curls, but to cultivate them and showcase their beauty!
You come to me with your curly hair clean and styled, with minimal product. I will perform a dry curly cut, a complete chelating/clarifying treatment, cleanse, conditioning/hydrating session and style along with coaching you through products, application techniques and my favorite tips and tricks, then your curls will be cut a second time to fine tune your style. Expect to spend 120-150 minutes with me.

I proudly use and retail Inner Sense Organic Beauty and Malibu C at Born Blonde - A Curly Hair Salon. I test every product on my own curly hair before I offer it to my curly and straight clients. If I won't use it on my hair, I won't use it on yours!
99.9% of the client pictures you see here and in my social media posts are created using Malibu C and Inner Sense Organic Beauty cleansers, conditioners and styling products.
I use a variety of things to achieve the results my clients are looking for.
I am not currently taking new color clients, but Joico is my color line of choice. It leaves the hair healthy and shiny without silicones, which makes curly and straight hair happy.
I offer Olaplex as a stand alone treatment and it is included in every color service I perform. Olaplex is a patented bond re-builder and is the only thing of it's kind on the market. It is NOT a conditioner containing moisture or protein, it is a professional treatment which finds broken bonds and reconnects them.
Malibu C products round out my arsenal. I use them in a variety of ways to provide a fresh curl canvas.

I have education and experience with all types of curls from loose waves to tight curls and coils.
Thank you for stopping by, I'm thrilled you're here! I am a Colorado Native, Veteran of the United States Air Force and fellow curly girl. I've spent most of my adult life fighting my frizz and frying my hair with a variety of flat irons, curling irons and blow dryers. There really is a better way! Our dry climate presents unique challenges, which is one of the many reasons I decided to specialize in wavy, swavy, curly and coily hair. My desire is to give every client who sits in my chair a cut they can love and style on their own. I have been trained to cut hair using a variety of techniques including Head Shape Matters, RezoCut, Raw Curls, Curly Hair Artistry, Deva and Cut it Kinky. I am also an American Board Certified Hair Colorist, but I have stepped away from hair color because my true passion is for cutting and styling curly hair...It's my happy place! I am always seeking new techniques to learn and share with my clients because the best part of my day is showing a curly girl what her hair can do! My hope is together we can find solutions to your curly hair challenges so you can love your curls, rather than viewing them as something to be managed or fixed. Where there is frizz, there is curl...I'd love to help you find yours!
I perform all of my cuts on dry hair. Whether you have straight or curly hair, it is important for me to see how your hair lives on your head. Growth patterns and problems areas will jump out at me allowing me to suggest solutions. Pony tails crease the hair and when the hair is dirty it doesn't behave the same as it does when it is clean. Trust me, it matters!
Lack of proper hydration is the biggest reason hair is frizzy and dry feeling. One of the primary reasons hair lacks proper hydration is because many of the things we put in our hair that claim to tame frizz are full of silicone which actually blocks the hair's ability to absorb the moisture it needs. Hair is similar to soil it needs consistent applications of the right things to produce great results...I can help you with this!
Maybe and maybe not. Feel free to bring your products in so we can read the labels together and I can help you learn what to be on the lookout for. If you can only invest in one great product, make it a quality water soluble conditioner. I promise, your curls will love you for it!
How many bad hair cuts have you had? Most of the folks who sit in my chair have a lot of stories about hating salon visits and cuts because of past experiences. The short answer to why it costs so much is because it takes more time and experience to cut and style a head of curls well. It has also been a significant financial investment on my part to learn and specialize in curly, coily, and wavy hair. In 2019 alone I invested over $6,000 in curly hair education and even with the pandemic in 2020 I've invested $4,000. I adore working with and learning about curls...the more I learn the more I can pass along to you!
Every single cut I give is based on a foundation of the Head Shape Matters patented cutting system, which relies on an understanding of how the hair falls when cut using different angles. In addition to being certified as a Head Shape Matters hair cutter, I have attended Deva Curl's Level One Inspired and Level Two Advanced Curl Specialist with Pintura highlighting classes. I am a Curly Hair Artistry Mastery Program Certified Stylist and a graduate of the Raw Curls Academy. I have attended a two day hands on Cut it Kinky class which focused solely on the cutting and styling of tight coily curls and I am currently diving deeper into this education with their online program. Most recently I attended a two day class from RezoCut/RezoLites.
This varies by client because no two heads have the same type of curls, but I see most of my curly guys and gals 3-4 times a year. The factors that increase or decrease the time between visits depend on you, the type of curls you've been blessed with and the style you are maintaining. Great products and effective routines are essential. Proper at-home care goes a long way toward stretching salon visits.
Education and practice! I spend a lot of time and money educating myself and practicing. I call myself a specialist and not an expert for a reason. I don't think I will ever know ALL the things there are to know about curly hair, or even hair in general, but I'm certainly trying. In addition to taking classes I am always reading books and articles about hair and its chemical make up and doing my best to keep up with ingredients. I'm also surrounded by a wonderful group of other curl specialists who share their knowledge.
Masks are mandatory for everyone. I am allowing only one person in my suite with me at a time and I am seeing fewer clients per day to allow myself adequate time to clean and disinfect surfaces, brushes, combs, clips, shears etc. There's also a whole lot of hand washing going on! Every client is draped with a clean cape and my window is open as often as the weather allows. Most of these precautions were already in place before the pandemic, so life at the shop doesn't feel terribly different.
Sure, you can cut your own hair, but even I leave it to my curl specialist! The influencers would have you believe it's simple....just pick up a curl here and a curl there and snip it. When I hear the words "unicorn cut" I die a little inside because I know bad things are happening to my curl friends. Curly hair can be very forgiving, but anyone who has had a bad hair cut will tell you it takes a LONG time to grow it out.
Please cancel as early as possible. Cancelling with less than 24 hours notice will result in a charge for 100% of your missed service. I will show grace where possible, but please remember this is my livelihood when asking for exceptions.
