Head Shape Matters
Curly Hair Artistry-MAP Method
All cuts are performed on dry hair, utilizing techniques I've learned from Head Shape Matters, The Deva Curl Academy, Curly Hair Artistry, The Raw Curls Academy, Rezo Cut Academy and Cut it Kinky. Each curl is cut to optimize its unique pattern in relation to the curls around it. My aim is not to "tame" your curls, but to cultivate them and showcase their beauty!
You come to me with your curly hair clean, detangled and styled, with minimal product. I will perform a dry curly cut, a complete chelating/clarifying treatment, cleanse, conditioning/hydrating session and style along with coaching you through products, application techniques and my favorite tips and tricks, then your curls will be cut a second time to fine tune your style. Expect to spend 120-150 minutes with me.

I have done away with tipping, which means the price is the price. I know it feels a little weird to start with, but I promise you'll love it! If you absolutely, positively HAVE to tip me I love flowers, Dutch Bros Christmas Chai and sugar cookies...But seriously, no pressure, I just want to create a more transparent pricing structure.
Intensive clarifying, chelating, moisturizing or protein treatments.
Olaplex #1 and #2 professional are applied to your hair and you'll be placed under the dryer. You'll go home in an Olaplex braid with #3 for maintenance use.
Additional fees may apply based on the length and density of your hair and the technique used
I proudly use and retail Inner Sense Organic Beauty and Malibu C at Born Blonde - A Curly Hair Salon. I test every product on my own curly hair before I offer it to my curly and straight clients. If I won't use it on my hair, I won't use it on yours!

Thank you for stopping by, I'm thrilled you're here! I am a Colorado native, Veteran of the United States Air Force and fellow curly girl. I've spent most of my adult life fighting my frizz and frying my hair with a variety of flat irons, curling irons and blow dryers. There really is a better way! Our dry climate presents unique challenges, which is one of the many reasons I decided to specialize in wavy, curly and coily hair. My desire is to give every client who sits in my chair a cut they can love and style on their own. I have been trained to cut hair using a variety of techniques including Head Shape Matters, RezoCut, Raw Curls, Joe, Miguel, Curly Hair Artistry, Deva and Cut it Kinky. I am also an American Board Certified Hair Colorist, but I have stepped away from hair color to focus on my true passion, which is cutting, coaching and styling curly hair...It's my happy place! I am always on the hunt for new techniques to learn and share because the best part of my day is showing a curly girl what her hair can do! My hope is together we can find solutions to your curly hair challenges so you can love your curls, rather than viewing them as something to be managed or fixed. Where there is frizz, there is curl...I'd love to help you find yours!
I perform all of my cuts on dry hair. Whether you have straight or curly hair, it is important for me to see how your hair lives on your head. Growth patterns and problems areas will jump out at me allowing me to suggest solutions. Pony tails crease the hair and when your hair is dirty it doesn't behave the same as it does when it is clean. Trust me, it matters!
Lack of proper hydration is the biggest reason hair is frizzy and dry feeling. One of the primary reasons hair lacks proper hydration is because many of the things we put in our hair that claim to tame frizz are full of silicone which actually blocks the hair's ability to absorb the moisture it needs. Hair is similar to soil it needs consistent applications of the right things to produce great results...I can help you with this!
Maybe and maybe not. Feel free to bring your products in so we can read the labels together and I can help you learn what to be on the lookout for. If you can only invest in one great product, make it a quality water soluble conditioner. I promise, your curls will love you for it!
How many bad hair cuts have you had? Most of the folks who sit in my chair have a lot of stories about hating salon visits and cuts because of past experiences. The short answer to why it costs so much is because it takes more time and experience to cut and style a head of curls well. It has been a significant financial investment on my part to learn and specialize in curly, coily, and wavy hair. Over the last three years I've invested about $20,000 into my curly education and I still wouldn't come close to calling myself a curl expert. Learning and growing never stops!
Every single cut I give is based on a foundation of the Head Shape Matters patented cutting system, which relies on an understanding of how the hair falls when cut using different angles. I have attended Deva Curl's Level One and Level Two Curl Classes, I learned and used Pintura highlighting before stepping away from hair color. I am a Curly Hair Artistry Mastery Program Certified Stylist and have also attended a live symposium event which consisted of two and a half days with along side some of the biggest hitters in the curly hair world cutting, styling and talking all things curls. The Raw Curls Academy in Florida was another live event where I worked on models as well as mannequins. I have attended a two day hands on Cut it Kinky class which focused solely on the cutting and styling of tight coily curls and I took a deeper dive into this education with their online program. Last summer I attended a two day class where I learned to cut and style using RezoCut techniques. Recently, I attended two and half days of Curly Hair Artistry with Scott Musgrave where I revisited all the tools and techniques I learned several years ago when I became a Mastery level stylist. Another amazing part of the Curly Hair Artistry live symposium was being in the room with some of the biggest hitters in the curly world...these are stylists I've followed on social media and admired for years! I was blessed to learn along side them and hone my craft further. Last, but certainly not least, was a quick trip to Boston for a jam packed day with Joe Miguel where I again worked on coily hair and soaked up all the knowledge I could from Joe and the other talented stylists around me. I'm blessed to be surrounded by curl specialists near and far who are willing to share their passion and knowledge of curls with me. If I don't have an answer, I have a tribe who does...
This varies by client because no two heads have the same type of curls, but I see most of my curly gals 3-4 times a year. The factors that increase or decrease the time between visits depend on you and how you care for your hair+, the type of curls you've been blessed with and the style you are maintaining. Great products and effective routines are essential. Proper at-home care goes a long way toward stretching salon visits.
Education and practice! I spend a lot of time and money educating myself and practicing. I call myself a specialist and not an expert for a reason. I don't think I will ever know ALL the things there are to know about curly hair, or even hair in general, but I'm certainly trying. In addition to taking classes I am always reading books and articles about hair and its chemical make up and doing my best to keep up with ingredients. I'm also surrounded by a wonderful group of other curl specialists who share their knowledge.
Tipping has long been a customary part of the salon industry, but for me it has always felt well, awkward...so I decided to make it go away! So after October 1, 2021 the tip screen will disappear from the check out process. I want to be as transparent as possible with my pricing and tipping during check out doesn't feel right for my space. Seriously, it's that easy and I'm excited to hear your feedback! To be clear, I still accept baked goods and Dutch Bros...I mean I'm not an animal!
Sure, you can cut your own hair, but even I leave it to my curl specialist! The influencers would have you believe it's simple....just pick up a curl here and a curl there and snip it. When I hear the words "unicorn cut" I die a little inside because I know bad things are happening to my curl friends. Curly hair can be very forgiving, but anyone who has had a bad hair cut will tell you it takes a LONG time to grow it out.
Please cancel as early as possible. Cancelling with less than 36 hours notice will result in a charge for 50% of your missed service before you can rebook. I will show grace where possible, but please remember this is my livelihood when asking for exceptions.
